April - monthly review

I've had some pretty cool things come up this month in blogging:
  • I maintained my weekly gaming for an entire month.  I can't remember how long it's been since I've been able to do that.  I played people who I had never played before as well.  You can check out my battle reports against Blood Angels and Daemons.
  • I started a new section on my blog that highlights other bloggers in or from the Indianapolis area.  There are quite a few gamers here, and you can catch up with all of our blogs in the column on the left.  If your are an Indy gamer with a blog, leave a comment and let me know-I'd be happy to plug your blog.
  • I began contributing to another Indy blog The Back 40K, a great blog mainly about competitive gaming.  My first post there caused a bit of a stir when some gamers from a store across town mistakenly thought that the post was directed at them.  The misunderstanding has been cleared up, and everyone seems to be happy once again.
  • I pulled out the Black Templars to get ready for a tournament on May 1st (tomorrow).  I play Crimson Fists using the BT rules, with the fluff that they are a Crusade Company (which is why both fists are red--you old-school Crimson Fists fans may remember that).  You can see my Emperor's Champion pictured above.  I'll have some battle reports and the tournament results posted early next week, along with an extra-special surprise for the local gamers.  Stay tuned :)

Battle Report: First Game Against Daemons

I had been preparing to go to Ard Boyz this year, but family life intervened.  Fortunately, there is another local tournament on the other side of town at Games 2 Die 4.  So I'll be taking the Black Templars and trying them out against a new set of opponents.

My game this week was against Sweet Nick and his Daemons, an army that I had not faced before.  I had read the codex, and was familiar with their units, but I've never seen what they can do on the table.

Spotlight: Indy Bloggers

I've added a new feature to indy40K:  The Indy Blog List.

You can check out what other gamers are up to across the metro Indianapolis area.  We have a diverse group of gamers, so you should be able to find something to your liking.

If you are an Indy blogger, and I don't have your blog linked here, drop me an e-mail at and let me know.

the back 40K - now with 100% more wienas!

I've been asked to contribute to another Indianapolis 40k gaming blog, the back 40K.

Most of the conversations there revolve around tournaments and competitive gaming, so my posts there will fit that theme (with just a bit of hobby gaming thrown in for flavor).

My first post is up now, talking about cheating in 40K.  Check it out and let me know what you think.

Dark Angels bits aplenty!

I have an excess of Dark Angels bits.  I'm still trying to clear out my bits box on ebay.

If you're into Dark Angels, or just like some of the bits, check out some good deals.

SciFi Shock Troops on pre-order from Wargames Factory

Wargames Factory has some of their new SciFi Shock Troops on pre-order.  These would make a great addition to a Guard army.  I'm really looking forward to these, and hope to have some pics up once they release.

Check out a pair of video reviews that Beasts of War did of the sprue and of a painted model.

Battle Report: First Game Against New Blood Angels

Tuesday I got in a game at the GP South store with a player trying out his new BA list, we'll call him Mr. Baracus.  I was excited to test out my Black Templars against the new hotness, but also rather nervous.  The older my codex gets, the harder time I have dealing with the new nasties that pop up in the newer books.  Anyway, here's his list:

Sanguinary Guard WIP

After much coercion, I got my FLGS to let me paint up some of their new Sanguinary Guard models.  I think someone at the store had already cherry-picked the sprue, because I was only able to build these 3 models.  The models look really cool, and are not as difficult to build as I have heard others say.

The model on the right will be carrying the Chapter Banner.

March - a month in review

This month I accomplished a number of things:
  • Started work on my Ork army (see above). The theme will be a looted Imperial Tank Column, and I want the Orks to have a very uniformed, disciplined feel. I'm using heads from Micro Art Studio. I'm not quite happy with this first model. I'll be adding rolled up sleeves to the arms, to reinforce the uniformed look of the model, and I want to change the camo scheme. If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to leave a comment.
  • I cleared up my personal schedule to allow for weekly gaming to renew. I'm looking forward to posting some battle reports soon. I play at the Game Preserve South, in Indianapolis, IN, on Tuesday nights if anyone is interested in a game.
  • I also started this blog this month. While not a huge accomplishment, it has given me motivation to keep working on painting instead of being lazy in front of the TV.
Thanks to everyone who has stopped by my little slice of the internet recently, and stay tuned for more.
