Army Showcase - Crimson Fists Crusade Company

Before I post my battle reports from the tournament last weekend, I thought I would run through my army.

I have been playing Crimson Fists since 3rd Ed.  The iconic red fists always appealed to me for some reason.  Their fluff also spoke to me; the tragic chapter that is fighting back from the brink of destruction seems really cool.  Around the same time that I started CF, my buddy started an Ork army.  The Crimson Fists are natural enemies of the Orks, so the rivalry would play itself out accordingly.  The fluff behind my particular band of Crimson Fists is that they are the remnants of a Crusade Company that was sent out after the Ork Waaagh! that was responsible for the destruction of their fortress on their home planet of Rynn's World.  The current rules I use to reflect this theme is the Black Templars Codex.  The zealous, in-your-face fighting style fits perfectly.

My Emperor's Champion leads this force.  I have the original Emperor's Champion model, from back when any Space Marine chapter could take one.  The model needed a bit of updating though, so I converted up a new one for this force.

The EC is joined to this Crusader Squad, which rides in this Land Raider Crusader.

The Venerable Dreadnought at the top has the Tank Hunter ability, making him very useful for hunting tough enemy armour.

These Terminators also have the Tank Hunter ability, and were originally used to take out light armoured targets like Ork Killa Kans, and Buggy squadrons, but are quite good at taking out armour of any variety.

A pair of Vindicators provide some up-close support.

Not pictured are two squads of Marines with Lascannons and Plasma Guns in Rhinos for some more long-range anti-tank, and serve as mobile objective grabbers late in the game.  Also are two Attack Bikes with Multi-Meltas, serving to harass armour and to contest objectives late in the game.

Sanguinary Guard WIP

After much coercion, I got my FLGS to let me paint up some of their new Sanguinary Guard models.  I think someone at the store had already cherry-picked the sprue, because I was only able to build these 3 models.  The models look really cool, and are not as difficult to build as I have heard others say.

The model on the right will be carrying the Chapter Banner.

Finished Death Compnay

I finally finished the Death Company unit. I'll deliver these to the FLGS tonight, where I hope to get a game in.

Finished Blood Angels Sgt. WIP Death Company

I finally got this guy finished. I tried some weathering on the jump pack exhausts and on the bottoms of his boots.

I also got started on the Death Company. The base colors have been laid down. Everything that is brown will be either bone, gold, or parchment when finished. Everything that is grey will be either blood red or white. Once that is complete, I'll start highlighting the actual black armour.

WIP Blood Angels Sgt

Work continues on the Vanguard Veteran Sgt. I've got the Death Company squad assembled and primed. I should have some pics of that up in the next couple of days.

New Blood Angels Vanguard Sgt WIP

The store manager from my FLGS let me take home some of the new Blood Angels models and paint them up. I started on the Direct Only Vanguard Vet Sgt.

Here's a pic of the model after it's been primed. The detail on the model is a little underwhelming. The pose is good, but the other Blood Angels models that I've seen are far more detailed. Having said that, I'm having a good time painting him, and can't wait to get started on the Death Company squad I have on the table.

Random model showcase

Since I didn't get a game in this week, I thought I'd post a selection of some of the models that I've painted.

I painted this Space Hulk Terminator for a competition on
Jawaball's Blood Angels blog.

These are all models that I've painted as one-offs, not as part of an army. I would like to finish my set of Space Hulk models to this quality, but will probably never happen :)

Army Showcase - Deathwing

From Deathwing Army

I wanted to start things off by showcasing my only finished army to date - the Deathwing.

Above you can see my Belial conversion. He uses Dreadnought leg armour for his shoulder pads, and a custom Storm Bolter.

Below is my Librarian. I liked the model so much that this is the only non-converted model in the army.

For the Assault Squad, I used Ron's method of painting banners.

For the tactical Terminator Squads, I used the Assault on Black Reach Terminators with bits from the Dark Angels upgrade sprue.
